Chairperson of the Master and Doctoral Program in Natural Resource and Environmental Management from the Sekolah Pascasarjana of the Universitas Sumatera Utara or USU, Professor Rahmawaty expressed her admiration when visiting the mangrove tourist attraction education area in Malaysia.

"It is very good because the community manages the mangrove forest independently," Prof. Rahmawaty said in a release to Borneonews on Friday, September 29, 2023.

Prof. Rahmawaty said, the visit to this mangrove tourist attraction was one of activities carried out in the framework of community service or PKM USU in partnership with international academics.

"Initially the people here only wanted to change their environment which was full of garbage, so that now it is a clean area. It turned out to be an educational tour," he said.

"Currently, many companies are channeling their CSR funds to this mangrove eco-tourism area. We need ATM here, observe (Amati), imitate (Tiru) and modify (Modifikasi) for mangrove management, especially in Lama Village and Paluh Kurau Village which are USU 2023 international PKM partners," said Prof. Rahmawaty.

The USU team involved in this visit were Prof Dr Rahmawaty, Prof Dr Abdul Rauf, Dr Arif Nuryawan, and Dr T Alief Atthorick.

Meanwhile, the USU Team accompanied by Foreign Partners consisted of Prof Dr Hj. Farida Zuraina Mohd Yusof as Dean of the Faculty of Gunaan Science, Universiti Teknologi MARA or UiTM Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan Malaysia. Then there are also Prof Dr Mhd Hasmadi Ismail from the Faculty of Forestry and Natural Environments UPM, Prof Dr Nazib Ibrahim, and Prof Madya Dr Seca Gandaseca from the Faculty Sains Gunaan UiTM Malaysia.
