The SDGs Center plans to broaden the next assessment to include a larger and more diverse student population, ensuring that future measurements capture a comprehensive view of SDGs literacy across the university community.
Medan, 17 October 2024 - In 2024, Universitas Sumatera Utara completed its first university-wide assessment of students’ sustainability literacy through the SDGs Literacy Survey/Index. The instrument measures four domains—Conceptual Understanding, Specific Knowledge of SDG Goals, Analytical Skills, and Sustainable Behavior—with equal weighting. Results show high conceptual and analytical competency among students and identify a knowledge-to-practice gap in sustainable behavior.
The 2024 measurement results reveal that participants of the SDGs Ambassador selection program achieved a high overall literacy score of 0.82, reflecting a solid understanding and engagement with sustainability concepts. These findings affirm that USU’s efforts to integrate SDG education have been largely successful. However, as this represents an initial baseline study, the results will guide future improvement. The SDGs Center plans to broaden the next assessment to include a larger and more diverse student population, ensuring that future measurements capture a comprehensive view of SDGs literacy across the university community.
