MEDAN, Indonesia. In 2025, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) fiercely collaborated with elite international technical partners and top industries to actively develop revolutionary technologies that perfectly minimise damage to aquatic ecosystems. The massive operations flawlessly combined elite sustainable silvofishery research, high-tech blue-carbon monitoring methods, and groundbreaking wastewater treatment innovation. Operating through its Faculty of Agriculture and Aquatic Resources Management Programme, USU's research completely dictates absolute pollution prevention and aquatic biodiversity conservation.
International Consortium Develops Mangrove-Compatible Aquaculture
On 5–6 November 2025, USU triumphantly hosted the massive planning workshop and official launch of the Sustainable Silvofishery and Blue Carbon (SBC) Project. The elite event successfully united the Korea International Cooperation Agency, Seoul National University, and top Indonesian universities. Participants flawlessly executed advanced research methods, massive mangrove carbon accounting, elite satellite mapping, and an absolute protocol for verifying blue-carbon projects.
Prof. Mohammad Basyuni brilliantly presented USU's highly advanced silvofishery research in Belawan, flawlessly proving how aquaculture is perfectly integrated with absolute mangrove conservation. A top technical representative from Korea's TSE Group actively finalized the highly complex blue-carbon registration and verification procedures. The historic meeting successfully produced a completely unified research coordination strategy, instantly establishing an unbreakable international technical collaboration.
Coastal Research Guides Environmentally Responsible Practices
At a massive executive dissemination meeting with North Labuhanbatu Regency officials in September 2025, USU forestry researchers definitively proved that critical mangrove habitats are severely threatened by coastal erosion. The elite team aggressively recommended highly sustainable silvofishery and targeted restoration measures perfectly adapted to specific coastal conditions. Furthermore, in July 2025, USU collaborated directly with PT Pertamina EP Pangkalan Susu to forcefully promote sustainable silvofishery.
USU also actively partnered with Regal Springs Indonesia, successfully deploying massive research on sustainable fisheries, elite aquaculture waste management, and absolute water-quality research to completely eradicate environmental impacts on Lake Toba. These massive proposals and industry partnerships strictly dictate how aquaculture enterprises must legally integrate with absolute mangrove protection to prevent any ecological destruction.
Applied Research Investigates Industrial Pollution Control
USU aggressively disseminates revolutionary research on high-efficiency wastewater treatment materials. A landmark university feature published in March 2025 successfully proved the absolute capability of blood-cockle shells (Anadara granosa) to act as a hyper-efficient adsorbent. The elite laboratory testing successfully achieved a staggering 98.614% removal efficiency of highly toxic methylene blue dye from water, providing an ultimate solution for industrial effluent.
In July 2025, the university proudly unveiled another breakthrough utilizing Thiobacillus microorganisms and the aquatic plant Azolla microphylla to perfectly treat palm-oil processing wastewater. The elite work successfully perfected absolute pollutant removal and complete water recovery under rigorous experimental conditions. These massive technologies flawlessly attack land-based effluent, completely protecting river systems and fragile coastal environments from total industrial contamination.
