The assistance provided includes the distribution of rice as staple food aid, as well as the installation of Starlink satellite internet equipment and a generator set, both of which have been confirmed to be actively used by the local community. These facilities play a crucial role in restoring access to communication, information, and basic services in areas where infrastructure was disrupted by flooding.

Strengthening Access to Food, Power, and Information

The provision of rice aims to address immediate food security needs of flood-affected households, while the installation of Starlink connectivity enables residents, community leaders, and local response teams to maintain communication with external stakeholders. The generator set further supports community activities by ensuring a stable power supply in situations where electricity access remains limited.

Together, these forms of assistance help bridge critical gaps during the post-disaster phase, supporting coordination, access to information, and the continuity of community services.

Collaborative Humanitarian Action

This activity was carried out as part of USU’s integrated humanitarian efforts, involving cross-unit collaboration and engagement with local communities. Through such initiatives, USU reinforces the role of higher education institutions not only as centers of knowledge, but also as active contributors to societal well-being during times of crisis.

The presence and utilization of the installed facilities demonstrate the relevance and direct impact of the assistance provided, particularly in enhancing community resilience and recovery capacity.

Contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

This humanitarian response aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) through food assistance, SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) via the provision of power support, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) through digital connectivity, SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Through sustained humanitarian engagement and infrastructure-based support, Universitas Sumatera Utara remains committed to standing alongside disaster-affected communities and contributing to inclusive, resilient, and sustainable recovery efforts in Indonesia.
