Has Elected Representation On The University's Highest Governing
Indonesian government institutions are divided into three powers, namely legislative power (making and forming laws), executive power (implementing laws), and judicial power (maintaining laws, including adjudicating violations of these laws). USU has representatives in all three types of government bodies. One of USU's representatives in the legislature is ROMO H.R. MUHAMMAD SYAFI'I, S.H., M. Hum. He is a member of the DPR-RI (2019-2024). Meanwhile, one of USU's representatives in the executive branch is Yasonna H. Laoly. He served as Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia. USU also has representatives in the judiciary, one of which is Prof. Dr. H. Supandi, S.H., M.H. who serves as the Deputy Head of State Administration at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Indonesia.
Based on USU's board of trustees regulation No. 16 of 2016 concerning USU's organization and governance, the University develops students' talents, interests, and abilities through co-curricular and extracurricular activities as part of the educational process. Co-curricular and extracurricular activities can be carried out through student organizations, career development units, or other units. University student organizations are formed at the University, Faculty, or School and Department level. So far, USU has 48 student organizations or at USU called Student Activity Units, which are divided into 13 fields/units, namely: Sports, Self-Defense, Spirituality, Organizational, Science and Technology, Student Creativity Week, Arts Institute Unit (ULK), Language Debate Unit, Community Service Unit, Student Entrepreneurship Center (SEC), Student Consultancy and Guidance Services (UPKBM), Journalism, and Information and Communication Technology Innovation (ITIKOM). Furthermore, there are also student unions at the faculty, or school and departmental level. For example, in the Computer Science department there is the IMILKOM organization.
USU Has Written Policies And Procedures To Identify Local Stakeholders External To The University
In the USU Chancellor's Decree Number 1501/UN5.1.R/SK/KPM/2020 concerning the procedures for USU cooperation, it is written that cooperation is a binding activity between USU and cooperation partners, on the principle of mutual benefit that does not conflict with applicable regulations. . Cooperation partners are parties outside USU who are:
i. government agencies at home and abroad.
ii. organizations or foundations, domestic or foreign
private institutions
iii. individual, group.
Evidence that USU has identified local stakeholders outside USU and is collaborating with them is the Implementation Arrangement between the Sumatra Regional Social Forestry and Environmental Partnership Center and the Bachelor of Information Technology based on the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the Social Forestry Center and the Sumatra Regional Environmental Partnership and Fasilkom -IT USU on Basic GIS (Geographic Information System) training. The Center for Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships for the Sumatra Region is a technical implementing unit in the field of Social Forestry and Environmental Partnerships based in the city of Medan, the same as USU in Medan.
